Spotting Bear Valley from Camel’s Hump

Once we’d immigrated to Canada, we settled in Cherryvile on beautiful Shuswap River (a short drive down Highway 6). While hiking up Camels Hump (the mountain on your way to town), we looked down and spotted Bear Valley from the tip.

We were struck by the views into the Monashee, the privacy and the potential that we saw in developing a sustainable business.We purchased the property in 2005 and finally moved there in 2007. The prospect of being off grid, which in the beginning also meant being without a phone and internet, was a challenge but we felt that we could manage it and are happy we did!

The Log Chalets: Our First Big Project

 Growing up in rural Germany and reading many a Jack London novel, Joe has always dreamed of living in the Canadian wilderness, and one day building a real log cabin from scratch. With the help of locals Bill Creboe and his sons, he learned the basics of carpentry and log home construction, from peeling the logs to assembly, framing, flooring and roofing. Completed in 2007, we couldn’t have been prouder hosting the first guests in our hand-built holiday homes.
